Summer 2016--Various comps
This will be a quarterly thread here at Drills & Amusements, summarizing any competition announcements that appear on the General Announcements board.
---
Thomas Gray Poetry Competition has website details accessible via David Anthony's post here. Those details include info about the judges and theme (different enough from the recent Gray's Elegy comp in the Speccie that you probably can't recycle). Prizes of £250, £100 and £60, plus up to three highly commended entries each awarded £30. Entry fee of £5 for the first and £3 for each subsequent poem. There's also a no-entry-fee comp for students, with smaller cash prizes. Deadline 24 June 2016.
---
Here are more details something about the following two comps:
Black Country Living Museum Annual Poetry Competition 2016. Theme: 'Earth & Air'. 1st prize £100. Deadline 29 July 2016.
Carers UK Creative Writing Competition 2016. Poems and short stories about taking care of a loved one. 1st prize £150. Deadline 31 July 2016.
---
An announcement about the Poetry and Politics Competition is here, if anyone's interested. Deadline 31 August 2016.
---
There are several additional UK-based comps here, but I'm not going to bother listing them.

Michael Juster just posted info on the X.J. Kennedy Parody Award he'll be judging, here. Parodies must be metrical (accentual-syllabic or accentual), although the poem being parodied may be free verse. There's a $10 entry fee for each 3 entries you send in--no limit (other than your eagerness to throw money at them). $500 prize. Deadline 1 September 2016.

Julie, I think you posted info about The Light Verse Unlimited 2 competition. My “Defeated” made the short list of six. Three of them got paid.

Hi Julie
I may have a poem for the Carers UK comp, so I will try and finish it off before the deadline 31 July (and if my wonderful mentor Jayne Osborn is reading this ... HELP!)

I am indeed reading this, Dave (and thanks for the kind words).
I'm trying to get around to doing a few submissions to various comps as well! But help is available . . . Friday?

Light Verse Unlimited's comp. no. 3 closes on the 31st. That's this coming Sunday!!
One of the very few comps which pays good money for light verse of any genre, style or length.
Ist Prize £150. 2nd £i00. 3rd £50.
see more on: http://www.writerscomp/index.php/competition
Sadly, having been a judge for its inaugural competition I shall have to give it a miss myself -- even under a string of aliases.

Hi Jayne
I wondered if the one I'm working on now would fit the bill?
