Ah, the computer plague of the yellow-thingies, John. I wasn't quite sure exactly what it was you were talking about either until Jerome weighed in, but up until then, like chicken pox, it was good for me to see that we probably both had it.

Nominal aphasia, John. Also known as Craft Syndrome - "Can't Remember A F...ing Thingie".

John, one of the funniest posts/threads I've ever seen here.
The computer doohickey stuff resonates.

Nominal aphasia, Ann, that's the fellah. And as soon as the thing is mentioned you know you knew it all the time. It's just what I was saying to my, you know, thingy. There's a poem somewhere there.
There is indeed. I wrote it If I am allowed... It has to be read in a Scots accent.
Thingummy
(Sorry, John, but Michael is right -- the poem here has to go. Rules are rules!)

That gem is from The Whitworth Gun, which is out of print; but if you ask John very nicely (and cross his palm with silver) you might be able to get a copy for your very own. I recommend it highly. It's chock full of quirky genius.

The Thingummy is wonderful.
Reminds me of another old Scottish ballad (to be sung by a female) called, as best I remember, "Ma thingamajig's awa".

And Gail, you are right about the thingamujig. I have the record somewhere.
