Sociologist seeks subjects for study on apathy. Interested parties should not reply.

Man of Property, short, with a hunch, smokes and drinks and likes bottles to munch, requires a young virgin to staunch sexual urging. Bed & Breakfast but bring your own lunch.

Yup, the apathy one is our best I reckon.
And I've discovered Quilp doesn't eat bottles. He eats eggshells. By the way, anyone discovered what he actually wants to DO to Little Nell? S & M? Oh, and how old is she? Eleven? Twelve? I think Dickens is on the edge here. Eleven or twelve-year-old prostitutes were common in Victorian London. As they are in Modern Bangkok I'm told.
Heavens it doesn't bear thinking about, does it?

John, Nell's brother tells Dick Swiveller that she's "nearly fourteen" - the same age as Juliet.
No, it's never clear exactly what Quilp intends to do to her. It's one of Dickens's most puzzling plots. Quilp is a great villain but we never really find out what the purpose of his villainy actually is. Still, the descriptions of his meals are terrific: not only eggshells but also gigantic prawns "with the heads and tails on" and boiling liquor, like the rioters in Barnaby Rudge.
