Topic Discussions

This is for everyone. Do you have a current project you would like to mention here, and some final thoughts about any of the topics discussed?

And this is also where I say thank you everyone — Alicia, Diane, Mark, Rachel, Sam — for making time to participate in this online symposium. The discussions have been stimulating, enlightening, even entertaining. It was my pleasure to have you all on the panel.

Best wishes,
...Alex.

Rachel Hadas

I have enjoyed even this rather brief exchange of ideas with Mark, Sam, Alicia, and Diane, and have been very impressed by the thoughtful quality of their comments and the lack of pomposity or self-importance throughout; does this reflect the medium, or are these just extra humane people? I also want to thank Alex Pepple for outstanding technical support (as they say) — I couldn't have done it without him.

Mark and Alicia I know somewhat from Sewanee and look forward to getting to know better (Alicia and I already have an intense Greek dialogue going on); Sam is a WC friend; Diane I know very little. But they are all friends in the art, and servants of the art, of poetry — as am I. At a most difficult time in my personal life — my marriage is coming apart — poetry continues to provide not only a structure but a refuge, a venue, an arcade in which to stroll, and a party...I guess that's what a symposium is, after all.

And Mark, it warmed my heart that you noticed we were giggling at the same places in the children’s' poetry reading — part of what I mean by friend in the art.

Thanks, everybody. I'll see you in cyberspace or, better yet, in human space and time.

Mega-dittoes (how she'll hate that one!) to Rachel. This has been enjoyable, though I wish I'd had a bit more practice at it beforehand. See you all.

It was an honor to be included. Thanks. I enjoyed it.

Diane Thiel

I am grateful for this opportunity to exchange some thoughts about poetry with my fellow panelists. It has been a useful new venue to learn more about these fellow poets, as well as to further introduce myself. I am honored to have been invited to participate. Many thanks.
